Actress/Model/Blogger/Radio personality/Socialite: All of these words can be used to describe the equally beautiful and talented Lauren Speed.
Lauren, aka L Speed, has graced the runway during BET’s Rip the Runway and most recently, New York Fashion Week. She has been featured in numerous ads for companies such as Chrysler, Al Wissam, and The Steve Harvey Clothing Collection. She has even appeared in popular magazines like Real Detroit, Native Detroiter, and most notably The Source, where she was voted “People’s Choice Dimepiece” in 2009. Not only was Lauren the cover girl on the #1 international Biker Magazine Horse Backstreet Choppers, you can spot her on the cover for the urban novel Stay in your place by Tonja Ayers. You also might recognize Lauren from her lead role in Slum Village’s video for their single “Faster.”
But Lauren is much more than just a pretty face. Having graduated with a B.S in Electronic Media and Film from Eastern Michigan University, she is the CEO of the lifestyle blog ThatDame.com, along with her online radio show LSpeed Radio.

16 Dreams: When did you turn 16?
Lauren: I turned 16…10+ years ago!
16 Dreams: What high school did you go to?
Lauren: I attended CMA (Communications Media Arts ) H.S. in Detroit my 1st 2 years and Southfield High my last 2 years.
16 Dreams: Use 1 – 6 words to describe yourself at 16.
Lauren: Shy, Goofy, Dreamer…
16 Dreams: Did you have a “Sweet 16” birthday party? If so, what was your theme?
Lauren: I actually had a hotel party for my 16th B-day my dad was friends with the Manager at the Atheneum Hotel in Downtown Detroit. So my closest friends and I got this huge suite and wandered around the hotel, ran into a few celebs . . . and giggled all night!!
16 Dreams: Who was your celebrity crush?
Lauren: I had a HUGE crush on Eminem!
16 Dreams: What were your feelings on turning 16?
Lauren: I was sooo excited! Its definitely one of those ‘right of passage’ ages lol so I felt like I was entering the next phase of my life. . . growing up. . .
16 Dreams: What did you aspire to be at 16? Has that changed since then?
Lauren: At 16 I wanted to be a singer, I loved writing, I was a choir/theater geek! So I was all about the stage! Not much has changed at all!
16 Dreams: When you were 16, who was your role model/idol?
Lauren: At 16 I really looked up to my dad… he’s always been a hard worker. . . achieving his goals and setting standards.
16 Dreams: Are there ever days you want to give up on your dream? What keeps you going?
Lauren: Absolutely that comes with the territory. What keeps me going is knowing that if it were easy everyone would be doing it! Struggling and having perseverance to get through the not so easy times…separates the people who actually reach their dreams and those who just dream. Never give up!
16 Dreams: What advice would you give aspiring models?
Lauren: Always keep your goal in mind, and standards. Never waver on either, be sure to master your craft, practice and always be prepared for possible opportunities. Just always be on your A game!!!
